One aspen leaf face-up on bare dirt, stem still red.

Before dropping a leaf, an aspen pulls the nutrients back into itself, then grows a layer of cells at the base of the stem and severs it. That red stem is the cut. The color everyone photographs is what is left after the tree took back everything worth keeping.

Care instructions

- Dust gently with a dry cloth. For a mark that will not lift, a barely damp cloth, then dry.
