Quiet Resilience

These are the easy pictures. A mushroom on moss, a flower in the willows, ants working the forest floor — anyone walking past with a phone could get most of these, and plenty of people do.

What does not show up is what it took. The pinedrop standing red and upright in the duff has no chlorophyll at all. It cannot feed itself, has never been able to, and survives by tapping the fungus wrapped around a pine's roots and taking sugar the tree made. It looks like a flower. It is a thief, and it has been one its entire life.

Everything here is alive right now, somewhere that is not making it easy. None of it is rare. All of it is working at a scale nobody stops for.
