Copyright & Licensing

All photographs on this site are the original work of Karrie Fox, operating as WyoRaw, LLC. I took them, I own the copyright, and buying a print does not change that.

None of what follows is meant to be unfriendly. Most people have simply never had a reason to think about the difference, and the difference is worth knowing before it matters.

What you get when you buy a print

The physical piece. Hang it, move it, give it away, sell the object secondhand if you want to. It is yours.

What you do not get

The right to reproduce the image. That means no scanning, copying, or re-photographing it for resale, no printing it onto anything, and no using it on a website, menu, packaging, sign, social account, or advertisement. Use of these images to train AI or machine learning models is not permitted without a written license.

The distinction that actually matters

Display is not reproduction.

If you buy a print and hang it in your restaurant, clinic, office, lodge, or rental, that is display. No license needed, and I am glad it is there.

If you photograph that wall and put the picture on your website, in an ad, or on a menu, the image is being reproduced. That is a license, and you should talk to me first.

A photo of your dining room that happens to include a print on the wall is fine. A photo where the print is the point, used to sell something, is not.

Sharing a photo of a print you own on your personal social media is fine. Using the image itself — cropped, screenshotted, or re-posted — is not.

Licensing

If you need an image for a business, that is a separate agreement from buying a print. Email me and tell me what you have in mind.

Licenses are priced on four things:

• Scope — a single website, or menus and packaging and advertising.
• Duration — one year, three years, or permanent.
• Exclusivity — whether I can license the same image to anyone else.
• Territory — local, regional, or national.

There are no published rates. Tell me the use and I will quote it.

Commissions and custom work

If you want something photographed specifically for your space or your business, that is possible. Ownership and usage rights are agreed in writing before the work starts.

Attribution

Not required, always appreciated. If someone asks about the piece on your wall, sending them to wyoraw.com is the nicest thing you can do for a small operation.

Enforcement

Unauthorized use of these images may be subject to a DMCA takedown notice or legal action under U.S. copyright law.
