The fire killed the tree.

It opened the cones first.

A blackened trunk standing against cloud, bark burned back to bare wood.

Lodgepole cones are sealed shut with resin and need about 133°F to open. Tree tissue dies at around 140°F. Seven degrees separate the heat that plants the next stand from the heat that kills the one standing — so the tree lets go of its seed on the way down.

Care instructions

- Dust gently with a dry cloth. For a mark that will not lift, a barely damp cloth, then dry.
